About Carole
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In recent years, I have embarked on an exciting new adventure into Abstract Expressionism! While I continue to draw heavily on landscapes and nature as sources of inspiration, I no longer rely on figurative reality. Instead, I strive to evoke a sense of place and the emotions aroused by the subject. My work explores new ways of responding to nature and my surroundings, drawing on my imagination, subconscious imagery and personal experiences.
Attending classes in creative writing has further enriched my artistic practice, allowing me to reflect on the creative process and explore diverse methods of conceptualizing and expressing ideas. Often, I integrate words into my paintings or accompany my work with prose or verse, creating a multi-dimensional narrative.
Primarily, I work with acrylic paint, but I frequently incorporate collage and other texture-creating techniques. My process is rooted in intuitive gesture and mark-making, embracing the potential for discovery and re-evaluation through chance. I aim to create harmony by balancing shapes, texture, form and colour — each an integral part of a process that reflects the various levels of consciousness involved in making art. My work ranges in scale from domestic sizes to large paintings exceeding six feet in any direction. While I have a preference for neutral colours, I also enjoy indulging in compositions with a strong, vibrant palette.
My intrinsic need to be creative drives me into my studio day after day, where I can lose myself for hours, exploring the possibilities of paint and various methods of application. My goal is to inspire those who engage with my art to look more closely at the world around them, to see things differently and to find beauty in unexpected places.
